RupeeLife Investor FAQs

Your Investments. Your Ownership. Your Rights.

Investing should be simple, transparent and easy to understand. At RupeeLife, we believe every investor should know where their money goes, who manages their investments, who holds the assets, how transactions are processed, and how they can access their investments at any time.

These Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) explain the key aspects of investing in Mutual Funds through RupeeLife — including ownership of your investments, transaction flow, AMC and RTA roles, custody, regulation, KYC, nomination, redemption, online access, and what happens if RupeeLife's platform is temporarily unavailable or if you choose to change your distributor.

The FAQs are designed in simple language to help investors understand the SEBI- and AMFI-regulated Mutual Fund ecosystem and the respective roles of the investor, Mutual Fund Distributor, AMC, RTA, custodian and other service providers.

These FAQs are intended to improve investor awareness and provide general guidance. They should be read together with the applicable SEBI regulations, AMFI guidelines, scheme-related documents and the terms and conditions of the respective Mutual Fund/AMC.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who actually owns my Mutual Fund investments?

You do.

When you invest in a mutual fund, the units are allotted in the name of the investor/unitholder, not in the name of RupeeLife or its employees.

RupeeLife acts as a Mutual Fund Distributor (MFD) facilitating and servicing your investment. Your mutual fund units belong to you and are maintained in the records of the respective Mutual Fund/AMC and its Registrar & Transfer Agent (RTA), or in your demat account if you have chosen the demat route.

Is RupeeLife the custodian of my investments?

No.

RupeeLife is not the custodian of your mutual fund securities.

Mutual funds have a regulated structure involving the Mutual Fund/Trustees, Asset Management Company (AMC), Registrar & Transfer Agent (RTA), and SEBI-registered Custodian, as applicable.

SEBI regulations require mutual funds to appoint custodians to hold the securities of the schemes.

What happens to my investments if RupeeLife stops its business?

Your investments do not disappear.

Your mutual fund units remain with the respective mutual fund/AMC and are recorded against your folio/account details.

If RupeeLife ceases to operate as your distributor, you can:
continue to hold your investments;
transact directly with the AMC/RTA, subject to applicable processes;
appoint/change your mutual fund distributor; or
choose to move to a Direct Plan, where applicable.

AMFI's current MFD master circular specifically provides mechanisms for transfer of clientele/AUM from one MFD to another and for investors to change their distributor/ARN.

What if RupeeLife's website or mobile app is Unavailable?

Your investments are not dependent on the availability of the RupeeLife website or app.

The platform is a transaction and servicing interface.

Your mutual fund holdings continue to exist in the underlying mutual fund folios.

You can generally access your investments through:
the respective AMC;
the AMC/RTA investor portal;
physical investor service centres;
other permitted mutual fund transaction platforms;
and your demat account,where applicable.

AMFI confirms that investors can invest and transact through AMCs, RTAs, MFU and other permitted platforms.

Where will I receive my redemption money?

When you redeem mutual fund units, the redemption proceeds are normally paid to the registered bank account of the investor, subject to the applicable scheme and transaction rules.

The money does not come from RupeeLife's bank account.

The AMC/RTA processes the redemption and makes the payment through the registered payment mechanism.

Whose name will appear on my Mutual Fund investment?

The investment is registered in the investor's name, based on the folio/account details submitted during investment.

For example:

Investor: Mr. ABC
Mutual Fund: XYZ Mutual Fund
Scheme: XYZ Flexi Cap Fund
Folio: XXXXXXXX

Distributor : Sigaram Investments Private Limited
ARN Code : ARN-301078

RupeeLife (Sigaram Investments Private Limited) may appear as the distributor/ARN associated with the transaction, but that does not make RupeeLife the owner of the units.

Who regulates Mutual Funds in India?

The principal regulator is SEBI — Securities and Exchange Board of India.

Mutual funds operate under the SEBI regulatory framework. The current framework is the SEBI (Mutual Funds) Regulations, 2026.

AMFI — the Association of Mutual Funds in India — is the industry body and administers the ARN framework and MFD Code of Conduct.

RupeeLife, as an MFD, operates within the applicable SEBI/AMFI regulatory framework.

What is RupeeLife's role in my investment?

RupeeLife owned by Sigaram Investments Private Limited acts as your Mutual Fund Distributor.

Our role may include:
helping you understand available mutual fund products;
facilitating transactions;
assisting with documentation and KYC;
providing investment-related service support;
helping track your portfolio;
and assisting with servicing requirements.

An MFD is required to meet prescribed certification and AMFI registration requirements, including obtaining an ARN.

Who actually manages my Mutual Fund money?

The AMC manages the scheme's portfolio.

For example, if you invest in a particular mutual fund scheme, the AMC's appointed fund management team makes investment decisions according to the scheme's stated objective and applicable regulations.

RupeeLife does not directly manage the underlying securities of the mutual fund scheme merely because it distributes the scheme.

Who holds/custodies the securities purchased by the Mutual Fund?

The securities of a mutual fund scheme are held through the scheme's regulated custody arrangement.

SEBI's framework requires mutual funds to appoint a SEBI-regulated custodian for custodial services.

Therefore, there is a separation between:

Investor → MFD → AMC/Mutual Fund → Custodian

This separation is an important part of the mutual fund structure.

11. What happens when I place a Mutual Fund order through RupeeLife?

I would actually show the investor this:

🟦 RUPEELIFE

What happens if the investor redeems?

The reverse flow is equally important to explain:

📊 APPLICABLE

When do I actually become the owner of the Mutual Fund units?

Once the transaction is successfully processed and units are allotted, the units are recorded against your mutual fund folio/account.

The applicable NAV and transaction date are governed by the applicable SEBI/AMFI rules, scheme documents, cut-off times and realization of funds.

Therefore, placing an order is not necessarily the same as receiving units immediately.

Can RupeeLife withdraw or transfer my Mutual Fund units?

RupeeLife cannot simply take ownership of your mutual fund units.

Transactions are subject to the authorization, authentication and processing mechanisms applicable to the investor and the mutual fund/platform.

Your units remain associated with your investor folio/account.

This is one of the fundamental distinctions between a distributor/platform and the actual asset ownership structure.

What happens if I want to change my Mutual Fund distributor?

You are not permanently tied to RupeeLife.

An investor can request a change of distributor/ARN, subject to the applicable process.

AMFI's current master circular specifically states that an investor wishing to change distributor or switch to Direct Plan should not be compelled to obtain an NOC from the existing distributor.

Your investments remain yours even if your distributor changes.

Why is KYC mandatory?

KYC means Know Your Customer.

KYC is a regulatory requirement intended to establish the investor's identity and other required information.

AMFI states that KYC is a prerequisite before investing in mutual funds and that the requirement arises under applicable anti-money-laundering laws and regulations.

KYC helps the financial system:
identify investors;
prevent impersonation;
reduce money laundering;
maintain accurate investor records;
and meet regulatory requirements.

Why do I sometimes need to update my KYC even though I have already invested?

KYC is not simply a one-time paperwork exercise.
Regulatory requirements can change, and investors may also experience changes in:
address;
mobile number;
email;
PAN-related information;
bank details;
FATCA/CRS information;
legal status;
or other required investor information.

Keeping KYC information current helps ensure that transactions and servicing can be processed correctly.

What happens to my investments when I die?

The investment does not simply become the property of the distributor.
The transmission process is handled according to the applicable mutual fund/SEBI procedures.
A properly registered nominee can make the process considerably easier.
AMFI explains that a nominee is required to complete the prescribed formalities, including KYC and submission of the required death and transmission documents.
SEBI's May 2026 revised nomination framework also allows up to three nominees and introduced modifications intended to simplify nomination and reduce unclaimed assets.

Is nomination compulsory?

For single-holder mutual fund folios opened under the applicable current rules, nomination is generally required unless the investor submits the prescribed opt-out declaration.
For jointly held folios, nomination is optional under the revised framework.
Investors can nominate up to three nominees.
RupeeLife recommendation: Every investor should keep nomination details updated, even where an opt-out is legally available.

What if my nominee is a minor?

A minor can be nominated, but the applicable process requires the necessary guardian-related documentation.
At the time of transmission, the nominee/guardian must complete the required formalities and documentation prescribed by the AMC/RTA.
The objective is to ensure that the investment reaches the legally entitled person through the proper process.

How can I independently verify that RupeeLife is an authorised Mutual Fund Distributor?

Investors should always verify the distributor's AMFI Registration Number (ARN).
AMFI provides an online Locate a Mutual Fund Distributor facility where investors can search by distributor name or ARN and also check relevant registration status.

RupeeLife should clearly display its:
Legal Entity Name:  SIGARAM INVESTMENTS PRIVATE LIMITED
AMFI ARN: 301078
EUIN: E572098

What if I cannot access RupeeLife's website or mobile app? How else can I access my Mutual Fund investments?

You have multiple ways to access your investments.

Your mutual fund investments are not dependent solely on the RupeeLife website or mobile application.

As an investor, you can access your mutual fund information and services through:

1. MF Central
A unified investor platform jointly developed by CAMS and KFintech, allowing investors to view their mutual-fund portfolio and access various services across mutual funds.

2. Individual AMC portals
You can also access your folios directly through the respective Asset Management Company's investor portal.

3. CAMS / KFintech (RTA)
Depending on which RTA services your mutual fund, you can access investor statements and other services through CAMS or KFintech.

4. Consolidated Account Statement (CAS)
